Shadows and Light
This is the calm before the storm that never happened. Capturing light in the sky to show the different tones of light is one of my challenges. With Black and White I am able to see more intensity in the image than I would with color.

Clouds in the foreground being shadowed by ones above, causing the intense effect in the image.

Nature and Still Life
What can I say, I just like to photograph nature and capture images that give me a feeling of serenity.

Just looking at an old abandoned building is not a great sight. But when nature takes over, it can turn that old building into something beautiful. (Sunset Silk and Twine Bldg in Petaluma, Ca.)

Natures Art
Just Decided to add some nature photos this time, for a change of pace.
I'll call this one Reflection.

I was able to capture this one in real subtle tones.

And finally what may seem like an ugly stump, turns out to be an old growth vine. For some reason it just draws you in and gives you an illusion of some kind of alien or something unexplained.

Going Back in Time
Having the opportunity to see period furnishings in their actual environment is one thing, being able to capture them with a camera is another. Considering the only light that is available is coming from a window or a 40watt light bulb, it brings me a challenge to capture these images with long exposures and a steady hand. These rooms and furnishings are from the 1850's and were owned by General Mariano Guadalupe Vallejo, one of the original large land grant owners in Sonoma County, California.

Playing with Light
Both photos were taken just before sunrise with the technique of "Painting with light". This is a process that I haven't done in a long time, I have forgotten how much fun it is to do and what an intense image I get from this process.

Oh, by the way, these are all taken in the dark. and no computer enhancement has been done to any of these photos.

An Early Morning Winter Sunrise
It just happen to be one of those mornings after filing my taxes, that I got a chance to enjoy this beautiful sunrise. I have found it to be a rare sight for me to get this lighting and view at the same time. Or maybe I just need to be getting up a 5:00 am to be on the road for these shots. Hope you enjoy them... R.

Beached
I decided to call this post "Beached" for the obvious reason. due to the time of day some of the photos have a higher constrast. Since I don't do any enhancements through the computer, I work with the exposure of the camera.

By the way, this little gal just happen to be around a cove and to my surprise was very patient having her photo taken. I figure her to be in the 800 to 1000 pound range and about 15 to 20 feet away from me.

Northern California Calm
From Sunrise to midmorning, these shots were taken after the flooding in some of the Sonoma County area. Just wanted to show the tranquility and beauty of what comes after a storm. Not all is Bad.

If shot in color these photos would have looked nice, but I enjoy the intesity of Black and White. I seem to notice more beauty in the images and nature tends to have a whole different feeling to me.
